Wait – what day is it? We’re losing track. The wine fountain we passed probably didn’t help us track any better. Yes – that’s right. A wine fountain. Maintained by Benedictine Monks – it’s loaded with 100 L of wine daily, and provided to pilgrims along the trail. That’s how we started our walk on Saturday – a 9 AM wine fountain date.

At the wine fountain a young Austrian man said something like “Cheers to the good day. Always one good day, and one hard day when walking”. Weird comment, but okay. Cheers friend, here’s to free wine.
The walk from Estella to Los Arcos was beautiful and easy. Weather held at an overcast 15 degrees and we found an inexpensive municipal Albergue after about 22 KM. Absolutely stunning views of rolling Spain countryside and vinayrds and crops.

My feet didn’t cause any issues, and Blakes diabetes behaved itself all day. Los Acrcos was a cute little town – small with a positively massive church, like every Spanish town we walk through.

Our prophetic Austrian friend ended up being right. One good day, one hard day. Yesterday – April 10th – Los Arcos from Viana was hard. Blisters and blood sugar lows. We still clocked 18 KM – almost all elevation rise and falls – but it was absolutely challenging, and we were wiped by the time we rolled into the town of Viana.

We made the best of it, and tried to enjoy the beauty and the walk – but she was a toughie.
Our hotel in Viana is dead set in the middle of the town square – which was having a festival when we arrived. The party spirit was nice, and we dipped into a bar to have some supper and enjoy the spectacle of people dancing and bands playing. This Sunday was the kickoff to the catholic Holy Week – which I guess to Spaniards means the kickoff to a week of partying it up in Jesus’s name.

Today is a late start on walking as it’s a shorter stretch. Will continue to update you all as we go. All our love! Becky and Blake.

Definitely a sign that your enjoying yourself when you lose track of time. Scenery looks fabulous

Well I think the answer to blister woes and diabetic lows must be “ the wine” . Lol careful.. in these many days until the journey ends you may need a new journey to sobriety . You know I’m just kidding . The scenery is gorgeous ! The stories you will tell for the rest of your lives !!! Love you dearly💕 hoping the woes are few ! Xx mom
