Chapter 22: Ledigos to Sahagun: oh…more rain.

Walking for days and days and days on end has surprisingly few drawbacks, but the inevitable HAS to happen eventually. The last two days have been rain. A lot of rain. Cold rain…

We left our little pod albergue and started off pretty well. For starters we knew that it was going to be a short day, and only had 18 kms to start with, and to make it better, the rain was SUPPOSED to hold off until we almost got to our final spot, Sahagun.

Sahagun was exciting because it is the exact center of the Camino…and we walked with Gary and Nick to an Albergue which we had reserved the previous day. Gary was especially cold, and as a group which is normally really chatty, we said almost nothing to each other for the whole walk. As we crossed from one province to another, we stopped for a quick coffee, and strolled confidently into Sahagun.

Sahagun was a cool town. Not much to speak of in regards to architecture, but LOTS to talk about regarding our meal that night.

As soon as we got to Sahagun, we checked into our Albergue. This is the first truly religious Albergue Becky and I have stayed at. We were both concerned that it might be not our thing, but the men who ran it were absolutely lovely.

Father Cormack and Paul were truly lovely people. Paul was the fellow doing the running around and Father Cormack was kind of in charge.

The men usually running the Albergue were away, and so there was no meal from the Albergue. Becky warmed up in bed, and took a shower in the ensuite washroom (a rare luxury) and Gary and I went out for groceries and gloves. We nailed it with both.

As we started looking for dinner, we found a Michelin Restaurant and decided to give it a shot. Turns out there was a Pilgrim’s Menu. Pilgrim’s Menus are kind of a regular thing where they offer you a few options in a series of courses for fairly cheap. They’re usually high carb options and generally pretty basic but very tasty.

Becky picked this:

The first picture is a Stewed Beef. It was amazing. Truly incredible.

She also managed to find giant wine glasses. (Regular glass for scale)

This meal was great. Really really great. After this we decided it was bedtime and headed back. Our room was…well…cold…and thankfully the father and Paul had given each pilgrim two blankets so they managed to keep us all pretty cozy.

We had a fun day despite the cold and slept pretty well. I’ll cover today tomorrow beca
